From a Palm Beach
Probate Lawyer
Q: Can’t I just use a Will that I buy in the store or on the
internet?
A: You can certainly try, but I will tell you that a portion of our business
comes from people who have tried to save a few hundred dollars by doing it themselves. Florida
has very specific procedures for executing a Will. A Will that isn’t properly signed,
witnessed or notarized may be defective and useless. At some point, many clients realize that
they have goals that can’t be accomplished by using a “cookie cutter” Will and
they come to us to do it the right way. The unlucky ones often die thinking they have a Will
that protects their family only for the family to subsequently learn that the Will is defective and
cannot be used.
